Martin Bieri has always been a favourite among guests for his exceptional culinary touch. His dedication to creating genuine delight is the cornerstone of his cooking philosophy. He is a man who likes to play with fire: creating ingenious dishes straight from the blazing «Sporz fire» are his speciality. Each dish that Bieri serves, evokes a sense of comfort and nostalgia.
«Just like my mother used to do on Sunday mornings, and ever since my apprenticeship in the Emmental, I have made the classic sausage and cheese salad the same way.»
«My job comes with a lot of responsibility. Together with my team, I can create the most precious thing for our guests – their time.»
The Mansard hotel stands where the Bettler clothing store used to be.
In the mid-1940s, the property was sold, and the Ludi restaurant opened. Mrs. Liselotte Ludi-Seewer managed the business until it was taken over in 1952 by Friedrich and Lieselotte Nopper-Lappert and turned into a cozy bed-and-breakfast place, named Hotel Christiania. In 1978, it was demolished and rebuilt with a restaurant. Managed with much love and pride, the hotel was soon referred to as «le plus petit des grands hotels». Under Mrs. Nopper the establishment garnered a reputation for charm and impeccable service.
Later, Hotel Christiania was manged by Nagy and Isabelle Geadah-Nopper. Mrs. Lieselotte Nopper continued to work behind the scenes till she passed away in 2017 at the age of 94 years. It was Nathalie, one of Nagy and Isabelle’s daughters, who facilitated the sale of the hotel when her parents wanted to stop working.
In 2020, InterGlobe Enterprises, an Indian travel conglomerate, joined forces with Dipak Rastogi, an acclaimed investor, and Michel Wichman, a renowned hotelier to acquire Hotel Christiania, and start a new chapter through a complete redevelopment. Built on a legacy of hospitality, The Mansard opened its doors in May 2024, promising to redefine guest experience and usher in a fresh era of service and comfort.
